What is Executive Coaching?
Executive Coaching is a goal-oriented, high-impact process that allows professionals of all levels to master their strengths, overcome their challenges, clarify their goals, and develop the skills and strategies to reach their personal and professional goals. An Executive Coach serves as a confidant and trusted advisor, mentor and strategist, as a cheerleader and accountability partner. The boost in self-awareness, soft skills, emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and productivity is a catalyst for shifting your performance, growth, and achievement to their peak.
Who benefits from Executive Coaching?
Just about anyone who has career challenges and aspirations can benefit from Executive Coaching. Coaching is often a pivotal experience for emerging leaders, new and veteran managers and directors, and senior leadership. However, Executive Coaching is especially impactful for leaders in fields where management or leadership training is not a prerequisite for advancement (e.g, medicine, education). AND, recent research (Bonneywell, 2017) has shown that Executive Coaching is especially impactful for female leaders as they navigate difficult transitions, grow personally, and advance professionally.
How much does Executive Coaching cost?
The cost of coaching varies widely, and some celebrity coaches charge as much as $30,000-$50,000 for a 6 month engagement. The Harvard Business Review (2009) listed the median cost of executive coaching as $500 per hour, with higher priced coaches charging as much as $3500 per hour. Our goal is to make Executive, Leadership, and Management coaching available to you, and we want our value proposition to be immediately evident to our clients. But many companies will pay for or share the cost of Executive Coaching for their employees. To find out more, ask your employer if they offer assistance for employees looking for this level of professional development.
How long will it take to see results?
Most coaching services will tell their clients to expect to see results after about 6 months of sessions, but we aim to do much better than that. We want our clients to feel the impact of each session, and we want the early results of coaching to scale toward your long-term personal and professional goals. Our clients have clear and incremental successes on an ongoing basis, and even some "Eureka!" moments along the way. Our Executive Coaching process is exciting, engaging, and illuminating, and it will propel you into a brighter future.
What is the difference between Coaching and Counseling?
The key differences comes center on setting and focus. Psychological counseling and other forms of psychotherapy are clinical services designed to treat patients' mental/emotional health. Typically, this means focusing on past experiences as a way of understanding a patient's present situation, with the goal of helping the patient develop coping mechanisms and stabilizing their mental/emotional health. Executive Coaching shares several similarities with these clinical services, but coaching is designed to take you beyond the analysis of past and present in order to help you refine your focus, build new strategies, and take aim at your future goals. We believe that counseling and coaching can be mutually supportive ways to develop yourself, create positive, practical ways of thinking, and implement tools and strategies that will promote your ongoing happiness, wellbeing, and success.
What is the coaching process and what should I expect?
The coaching process is dynamic and moves through many successive phases of personal and professional development. The process is tailored to each client's needs, and so it can vary from one individual to another. Typical Executive Coaching engagements last for between 3 and 6 months and are shaped by the client's needs and preferences. Early sessions tend to focus on creating a strong coach-client relationship, building self-understanding and awareness, refining your vision of the future, and defining goals and benchmarks for success. The coaching process involves different assessments and can include a 360 review within your organization. Over time, sessions begin to hone soft skills, enhance emotional intelligence, encourage strategic thinking, and increase productivity.
What does a typical coaching session look like?
Generally speaking, Executive Coaching sessions are personal and conversational engagements between you and your coach. They typically last about an hour, and they can be carried out in-person or through a virtual or video connection. And like many things in life, there is much more to these conversions than meets the eye. Behind the coaching sessions, your coach may ask you to reflect on different elements of your personal and professional life, and may even ask you to complete exercises in advance of your session. Both before and during each conversational session, your coach is actively learning about your values and motivations, helping to set your goals and vision in relief, drawing on your assessment results, identifying practical strategies to fit your strengths, and connecting the dots between the hear and now and your vision of the future. All of this happens in partnership with you the client, though some of it may not be fully obvious to you until you begin to feel the positive changes in your life.
Is Executive Coaching confidential?
Yes. Executive Coaching is a completely confidential process. Anything you discover or disclose in the process of working with your coach is private. The results of any and all assessments you take are yours and confidential. During a 360 review, we will collect information from colleagues and other stakeholders, but no confidential information is shared in the process. If your company or organization is covering or sharing the expense of coaching, they may require updates on your progress. In these cases, we work with you to determine what general information is required (sessions attended, general progress, etc.) and what additional information can be shared with your express consent.
